Its Significance
Easter is celebrated by Christians as a form of a joyous holiday as it primarily represents the fulfillment of the prophecies about the Old Testament. It is also celebrated to rejoice in the salvific plan of God for the whole of humankind.
In this commemoration of Jesus’ resurrection, Easter also stands for the celebration of the defeat of death in the hopes of salvation.
According to Christian faith and beliefs, they also believe in the fact that the sins of all humanity were paid by the death of Jesus Christ. It also represents a hope for attaining salvation for the people. The resurrection of Christ represents a hope for the common people – a hope for resurrection.
When Does It Get Celebrated?
Back in 325, the Nicaea Council concluded the fact that the occasion of Easter is to be observed on every first Sunday following the event of the first moon after the Spring Equinox takes place (21st March).
The event of Easter can take place anywhere between the 22nd of March and the 25th of April.
There are also variations on when it exactly gets celebrated. For example, the churches of Eastern Orthodox make their calculation based on a Julian calendar.
Due to this, the celebration of Orthodox Easter takes place much later than that of the Protestants and Roman Catholics.
Tip: The Happy Easter 2023 was celebrated on 9th April this year. |
Why Do People Wish “Happy Easter”?
As I mentioned in the earlier section of the article, Christians celebrate this day as it marks a joyous occasion of the resurrection of Jesus even after his Crucifixion.
They also celebrate it as it gives people hope and enlightenment on “resurrection after death”. When someone gives you happy easter wishes, you are supposed to reply with a “Thank You”.
Significance Of Eggs On Easter
Eggs are synonymous with Easter as they represent rebirth and new life. It is thought that this ancient custom much later on became a part of the easter celebrations.
During the medieval period, eating eggs was entirely forbidden during the Lenten (fasting period). This is why finally on Easter Sunday, treating oneself to eggs was the real treat.
Easter Bunny is also a thing that is very popularly associated with the term “Easter”. If you search for “happy easter images” then you are going to see bunnies holding easter egg baskets.
